How To Ensure That Your Trees Bloom In The Springtime

Your trees can be a healthy and vibrant addition to your home’s landscape. They can make the yard look nicer, give your home some much needed shade, and change in appearance with the seasons. If you’ve planted a tree whose flowers are set to bloom in the spring months, it will be disappointing if it fails to do so. You can take preventive measures beforehand to help ensure that this doesn’t happen, however. So, how can you take action to help your trees bloom during the spring? We give you some tips below!

Don’t Prune At The Wrong Time

Pruning your trees is especially important to their health. It helps to eliminate weak branches that could damage the tree’s overall structure. However, timing is everything when it comes to this task. If you prune your tree too early or too late, you’ll risk removing flower buds that would have bloomed later! The best time to do any major pruning is during a tree’s “dormant” season, which is around the winter time. January to March is the best range to do any major pruning, but we wouldn’t recommend going beyond that time frame.

Prevent Soil Deficiencies

Once a tree gets out of its dormant state, you will most likely need to do a bit of maintenance catchup to get it ready for the spring. This especially applies to those trees you expect to bloom! In order to prevent soil deficiencies leading into the new season, make sure that you appropriately fertilize the area around your tree. The roots around it will be able to absorb the nutrients it needs for healthy development and blooming once the spring months roll around.

Appropriately Water Your Tree

Coming out of the winter months means that your tree will need a bit of care. Water is another issue that could be harming your tree before the spring, so make sure you take some time to water the soil around your tree. Of course, you never want to overdo it! Just make sure that your tree is getting enough water to foster healthy growth. If it rains before the spring, it could help to provide the tree with water!
