If your trees are shedding or losing leaves in the spring, it may be a bit alarming to you. However, there are some cases where this isn’t a huge problem and other times where you may be in a bit more trouble. Let’s look at some more information about trees losing leaves and what might be going on during the spring.
If the leaves are falling off of your tree, and seem to be green and looking healthy, it may not actually be a problem! Since the leaves look healthy, it just means that the season these leaves fall off is in the spring. While many of us associate leaves falling off in the fall, but some fall off in the springtime as well. These could include Hackberry, Hickory, Holly, Live Oak and Southern Magnolia.
There are unfortunately sometimes where you may be in a bit of trouble, which is typically when you are seeing the leaves falling off, but they are brown and curled or spotted as well. This could be a sign that your tree has anthracnose, which is just the general term for a fungal disease in plants.
This all being said, it is crucial to be able to identify either way what the problem is. You may be able to save the fungal diseased plants by removing certain branches on the tree, but you may have to replace the tree, depending on the situation.
